Two Bulawayo men appeared in court on Tuesday facing allegations of brutally assaulting a colleague during a late-night altercation.
Melusi Mlalazi (27) of Emakhandeni and Province Dube (38) of Pumula Old suburb appeared before Western Commonage regional magistrate Pasipanodya Maturure charged with attempted murder. The pair was remanded in custody to March 9 pending the production of a medical report.
Prosecutor Melissa Dube told the court that the accused and the complainant are known to each other as work colleagues.
The court heard that on February 9, 2026, at around 10PM, the complainant, Noel Chimanyi, was at the intersection of Hyde Park Road and Nketa Drive near Unathi Filling Station together with the two accused persons when a misunderstanding arose.
It is alleged that the dispute escalated, resulting in the two men punching Chimanyi several times with clenched fists. The complainant reportedly fell to the ground, after which the accused allegedly continued the assault by kicking him repeatedly before leaving him lying at the scene.
Chimanyi sustained injuries to his face and head and was referred to hospital for medical treatment. A report was subsequently made to the police, leading to the arrest of Mlalazi and Dube.
The matter remains before the court.
