Mliswa alleges plot by military officials

Outspoken politician Temba Mliswa has claimed that some military officials recently held a meeting where an alleged decision was made to "stop" him, escalating tensions between the former Norton legislator and elements within the security establishment.

In a post on X, Mliswa alleged that following the meeting, a report was delivered to Vice President Constantino Chiwenga's wife, Colonel Minnie Baloyi. He did not provide evidence to support the claim.

Mliswa said he has always respected the Zimbabwe National Army and the broader security services, noting that he has previously worked closely with and held in high regard several senior military leaders. Among those he mentioned were the late Solomon Mujuru, Vitalis Zvinavashe, Paradzai Zimondi, Josiah Tungamirai, Perrance Shiri, Mike Chimonyo and Sibusiso Moyo. He said his long-standing association with senior commanders demonstrated his understanding of and respect for the military's role in national affairs.

However, Mliswa warned that some individuals within the security sector may be attempting to use their positions and political ambitions to silence dissenting voices. He said Zimbabwe is not known for political assassinations and cautioned that anyone contemplating such actions should be prepared to face the consequences. Writing partly in Shona, he stressed that the situation should not degenerate into threats.

Addressing the events of 2017, Mliswa argued that Operation Restore Legacy was not a military coup. Instead, he said it was Parliament's impeachment process and widespread public protests that ultimately compelled former President Robert Mugabe to resign.

Mliswa further stated that no individual or group should seek to appropriate what he described as a people-driven revolution for personal political ambitions. He reiterated his loyalty to the current President and said all citizens should show respect and allegiance to the country's leadership.
