In-form Mongameli Tshuma has earned a national team call-up after an explosive start to life at Highlanders FC, capping a rapid rise that has thrust the young attacker into the spotlight.

Tshuma has been drafted into the Zimbabwe national football team squad for the Mukuru Four Nations Tournament set for Francistown this weekend, following a string of impressive performances in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

The forward has featured in four matches so far this season, facing Bulawayo Chiefs, Dynamos FC, MWOS and Simba Bhora FC, and has quickly established himself as one of Bosso's standout performers.

The Warriors, currently in camp in Bulawayo, are set to play an exhibition match against Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium tomorrow as part of the club's centenary celebrations before travelling to Botswana.

National team coach Marian Marinica has included Tshuma alongside Washington Navaya (Hardrock), Jarrison Selemani and Godknows Murwira (both FC Platinum) as replacements for injured players.

Zimbabwe will be without several key figures, including former captain Knowledge Musona, Scotland-based Tawanda Maswanhise, Tanzania-based Prince Dube, and Thando Ngwenya of AmaZulu FC, all sidelined due to injury.

Tshuma has already made a strong impression at Highlanders, scoring a stunning goal in a 2-2 draw against Dynamos and delivering another standout performance in a goalless draw against MWOS at Barbourfields Stadium last week.

His performances have not gone unnoticed. MWOS coach Lloyd Mutasa praised the youngster, comparing him to legendary forward Peter Ndlovu.

"It was reasonable to look at that young boy (Tshuma) who came from Hwange. What a brilliant player," Mutasa said.
"He reminds us of the great Peter Ndlovu. If he gets more games, he will shine at Barbourfields."

Marinica said the Four Nations tournament presents a valuable opportunity to assess emerging talent as he begins building a competitive squad for future assignments.

"We are now preparing for the tournament, which has major stakes because it affects FIFA rankings and offers a trophy," he said.

"We want to have a blend of experience, youth and enthusiasm - bringing in new faces. We want to give them the opportunity this tournament provides to shine, just like in the past."

The coach added that the long-term goal is to assemble a team capable of qualifying for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

"We want the players to prove they can be the backbone of the future Warriors," Marinica said.

By midday yesterday, Tshuma, Andrew Mbeba, Navaya and goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze had reported for camp, with the squad expected to hold a light training session later in the day.
