ZNA vows to remain alert against threats

The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) says it will remain alert and vigilant in the face of evolving security threats to ensure that peace and stability prevail in support of national development.

This was stated by Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, Asher Walter Tapfumaneyi, during a command handover ceremony held at Kaguvi Barracks, where leadership of 2 Infantry Brigade was officially transferred.

The ceremony saw Million Ndlovu hand over command to Jabulani Mulambo, in line with the military's tradition of leadership rotation and institutional continuity.

Lt Gen Tapfumaneyi emphasised that the ZNA, together with other security services, remains committed to maintaining a secure environment for both citizens and visitors.

"We will do everything within our confines to ensure that citizens and visitors alike enjoy peace in this beautiful motherland of ours," he said.

He noted that command handovers are an important part of military culture, helping to develop officers into versatile leaders capable of managing both tactical and administrative responsibilities.

"This system of management helps to develop officers into versatile and all-round leaders capable of handling the ever-changing demands of the military profession," he added.

The Commander also underscored the core values of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, including discipline, integrity, loyalty, professionalism, and respect for authority, describing them as essential pillars of an effective military institution.

Addressing recent negative media coverage of the ZNA, Lt Gen Tapfumaneyi cautioned against the spread of unverified information, urging responsible reporting.

"Anybody who wants to cook up a story painting conspiracy theories is lost in his weak imagination. We are there to defend this country," he said.

In the same ceremony, outgoing brigade commander Brig Gen Ndlovu was praised for his service and leadership, with his new appointment as Senior Personal Staff Officer to the Commander Zimbabwe Defence Forces reflecting continued confidence in his capabilities.

Incoming commander Col Mulambo, who previously served at the Zimbabwe National Defence University, expressed gratitude for his appointment and pledged to build on the brigade's strong operational record.

The Zimbabwe Defence Forces reiterated their commitment to safeguarding the nation's sovereignty while supporting broader national goals, including peace, stability, and economic development.
