Two Harare men have appeared in court facing charges linked to the alleged murder of a driver employed by the National Prosecuting Authority.

Tawanda Ruzvudzo and Edmond Muzuva were remanded in custody when they appeared before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo, who advised them to apply for bail at the High Court.

According to the State, the incident occurred on March 12 when the accused allegedly targeted the now-deceased, Shingirayi Chikosha, after posing as passengers seeking transport to Norton.

The court heard that the suspects were at Whitehouse bus terminus when Chikosha, driving a Kia Picanto belonging to the NPA, offered them a lift at around 9:30 pm.

During the journey, the two allegedly strangled him to death.

Prosecutors say the accused then transported the body to Lake Chivero, where they allegedly dumped it in a bush near Gracelands Resort Centre before fleeing with the vehicle and the victim's personal belongings.

The stolen car was later recovered in Chegutu.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
