Zapu organising a national shutdown

The ZAPU leadership has criticised the ongoing public hearings on the Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3, arguing that the process is inadequate and unlikely to capture the true sentiments of citizens.

In a statement, the party said the structure and scope of the consultations do not allow for broad-based and meaningful participation, raising concerns about the credibility of the outcome.

ZAPU leaders contend that many Zimbabweans feel excluded from the process and that the current framework limits the ability of citizens to freely express their views on the proposed constitutional changes.

The party warned that growing dissatisfaction could lead to mass action, indicating that citizens may resort to a national shutdown and protests as alternative forms of expression.

According to the leadership, engagements are already underway with what they described as "progressive Zimbabweans," with plans to outline a course of action in the coming days.

ZAPU said it expects to address the nation within the week, where it will provide further details on a proposed protest programme that could culminate in a nationwide shutdown.

The developments add to increasing political tensions surrounding the Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3, which has drawn both support and criticism from various political actors and civil society groups.

Authorities have maintained that the public hearings are part of a constitutional process designed to gather citizens' views, as consultations continue across the country.
