The fraud trial involving Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries founder Walter Magaya has been postponed to June 5 to allow the State to complete ongoing investigations.
Magaya is jointly charged with his wife Tendai Magaya in a case involving 13 counts of fraud linked to an alleged multi-million-dollar church housing scheme that reportedly failed to materialise.
The couple, together with their companies Planet Africa (Pvt) Ltd and Yadah Connect (Pvt) Ltd, are accused of misrepresenting land and investment opportunities to congregants and members of the public.
Court papers allege that between 2016 and 2018, the accused told followers of the Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries that residential stands and investment projects had been secured in several locations across Zimbabwe, including Chishawasha, Westgate, Norton, Arcturus, Ruwa, Manyame, Nyatsime, Mutare, Kwekwe and Bulawayo.
The matter was postponed after prosecutors indicated that investigations were still incomplete and further preparation was required before trial proceedings could continue.
Magaya and his co-accused are expected back in court on June 5 as the State finalises its case.
