Ex-aide exposes MDC-T in pay dispute

A former chief aide to the leadership of MDC-T has accused the party of deliberately emptying its bank account to avoid complying with a Labour Court order to pay outstanding salary arrears.
Kudzanayi Mashumba, who served as chief aide to then-acting party president Thokozani Khupe, was awarded US$7 600 in unpaid wages following a prolonged legal dispute. However, he says he has only received US$2 948,41 through a garnishee order.
Court documents indicate that the funds available in the party's account at the time of enforcement were insufficient to cover the full amount, leaving a remaining balance of over US$4 600.
Mashumba alleges that the party acted to frustrate enforcement of the judgment by reducing or moving funds after the garnishee order was issued, a claim the party disputes.
The case adds to ongoing financial and organisational difficulties faced by the MDC-T, which in recent years has struggled with funding constraints, internal disputes, and administrative setbacks.
Party officials have previously attributed such challenges to limited state funding and declining donor support, while critics argue that internal financial management issues have worsened the situation.
Mashumba has indicated that he may pursue further legal action if the outstanding balance is not settled, while the party maintains that the matter should be handled through legal channels rather than public commentary.
