AUTHORITIES have recovered human remains believed to belong to a man who was killed by a crocodile at Mpopoma Dam earlier this month.
The remains were discovered during the dissection of a crocodile suspected to have attacked the victim while he was fishing at the dam on May 1.
Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority spokesperson Mr Luckmore Safuli confirmed the development and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family.
"We extend our sincere condolences to the family, friends and associates of the deceased during this difficult time," said Mr Safuli.
"We continue to urge members of the public to exercise extreme caution when near water bodies known to harbour crocodiles and other dangerous animals."
Following the attack, ZimParks, working together with the Zimbabwe Republic Police and other stakeholders, launched a search operation for both the missing man and the crocodile believed to have been responsible.
The reptile was tracked down, shot and recovered on May 23 before being dissected, leading to the recovery of the human remains.
Police in Matopo attended the scene to verify and formally document the findings.
Authorities have since urged communities living near dams and rivers to avoid swimming, fishing or collecting water in unsafe areas, particularly during the early morning and evening hours when crocodile activity is at its highest.
