MIDLANDS – Chirumanzu‑Zibagwe legislator Hon. Jacob Chokururama has declared his support for Constitutional Amendment Bill Number 3, saying it reflects the clear wishes of citizens across Zimbabwe.

In a statement released on Monday, Chokururama said public consultations and feedback from communities nationwide showed overwhelming backing for the proposed constitutional changes, which he linked to the government’s broader development agenda under President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

He said he would vote in favour of the Bill when it is presented in Parliament, describing his position as consistent with the mandate given to him by voters in Chirumanzu‑Zibagwe.

“As their elected representative, I have listened. Parliament has listened. Now Parliament will deliver,” he said.

Chokururama argued that the Bill is intended to strengthen governance structures and support Zimbabwe’s long‑term goal of achieving upper middle‑income status through economic transformation and industrialisation.

He added that the current parliamentary composition, with the ruling ZANU‑PF party holding a strong majority, makes the passage of the Bill highly likely once debate resumes in the House.

“This is representative democracy in its purest form. The Zimbabwean masses have instructed their legislators and we are duty‑bound to honour that instruction,” he said.

The legislator also expressed confidence that the President would respect and implement the outcome of Parliament once the legislative process is complete, describing the constitutional framework as a “chain of legitimacy” linking citizens, Parliament and the executive.

Parliament is expected to resume sittings this week, with Constitutional Amendment Bill Number 3 among the key items on the agenda.

Chokururama said the people of Chirumanzu‑Zibagwe remain committed to national development efforts aimed at modernising the economy and improving living standards.

“The voice of Chirumanzu‑Zibagwe will be heard in Parliament,” he said.
