Hardrock FC reclaimed top spot in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League with an impressive victory over Simba Bhora at Chahwanda Stadium, inspired by a clinical brace from returning striker Washington Navaya.

Having surrendered first place less than 24 hours earlier and gone two matches without a victory, Hardrock entered the encounter under pressure to respond. They did so emphatically, producing a performance that underlined their growing credentials as genuine title contenders.

Navaya, fresh from national team duty, made an immediate impact and provided the cutting edge that had been missing in Hardrock's recent outings.

The striker opened the scoring in the 32nd minute after excellent work by Sambulo Simelane created space for a simple close-range finish. The goal capped a dominant spell for the hosts, who controlled possession, pressed aggressively and repeatedly forced Simba Bhora onto the defensive.

Navaya struck again 10 minutes later with a finish of even greater quality. He expertly controlled a precise cross from Neliswa Dlamini before firing past the goalkeeper to double Hardrock's advantage before the interval.

The two goals gave the hosts a commanding lead and ultimately proved decisive.

Although Simba Bhora improved after the break and enjoyed more possession, they struggled to convert their territorial dominance into clear-cut opportunities. Carlos Mavhurume failed to capitalise on an early second-half chance, while McCartney Naweseb was unable to consistently trouble the Hardrock defence.

Hardrock's disciplined organisation and energetic midfield play were central to their success. The quartet of Munashe Bamara, Donald Mudadi, Dlamini and Simelane controlled key areas of the pitch, winning second balls and launching dangerous counterattacks whenever Simba Bhora committed players forward.

The hosts added a third goal through substitute Samuel Makawa, whose long-range effort took a deflection before finding the net, effectively ending any hopes of a Simba Bhora comeback.

The victory also ensured that attention remained on the football rather than crowd trouble. Chahwanda Stadium had come under scrutiny following disturbances during Hardrock's previous home match against Dynamos, but this time supporters from both sides created a lively atmosphere without incident.

Hardrock coach Kelvin Kaindu praised his players for responding positively to the pressure of the occasion.

"It is a very important win for us. We hadn't won in the last two games and today we responded positively. Before kick-off we had slipped from our position on the log, but we reacted well, scoring three goals.

"It shows the depth we have in the team. We made changes and those who came in did very well. We saw the value of Navaya because we missed him in the last two games and today he showed his impact."

Despite the result, Kaindu maintained that the club's primary objective remains survival, although performances such as this are increasingly raising expectations among supporters.

For Simba Bhora, the defeat extended a worrying run of form and left coach Mandla Mpofu searching for answers.

"A tough match for us. I am very disappointed. We had a good plan to close spaces around the box. We did well for periods, but I was disappointed with the last 10 minutes of the first-half. The scoreline is very disappointing and our team's recent performances are worrisome," Mpofu said.

The result sees Hardrock return to the summit of the league standings, while Simba Bhora face mounting pressure to arrest their recent slide and rediscover the consistency that marked their earlier campaign.
