Self‑proclaimed Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) secretary‑general Sengezo Tshabangu has dismissed as “malicious accusations” reports claiming he issued an ultimatum to Zanu PF over the endorsement of Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB 3) in the Senate.
In a statement, Tshabangu said the allegations were being circulated by “agents of misinformation and cheap propaganda”.
“The claim alleges that I gave Zanu PF an ‘ultimatum’, suggesting that I requested a political arrangement that would lead to the endorsement of CAB 3 in the Senate,” he said.
Tshabangu reiterated his support for what he described as development, consistency and policy continuity through the continuation of the current 10th Parliament, the Executive and the Judiciary.
“In short, I have been a vocal and unequivocal supporter of development, consistency and the continuation of the current 10th Parliament, the Executive and the Judiciary, so as to allow policy continuity and overall development in our nation,” he said.
He also denied engaging anyone regarding the alleged arrangement, insisting that the claims should be dismissed.
“As a matter of fact, and to set the record straight, I have not spoken to anyone regarding the said information, and it must be disregarded with the contempt it deserves,” Tshabangu said.
He further stated that the Upper House was awaiting the passage of Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 before it is sent to President Emmerson Mnangagwa for assent.
“The Upper House of the 10th Parliament of Zimbabwe is waiting with anticipation for the passing of CAB 3 and its submission to the President for assent without delay. That is my position,” he said.
