Twenty-five Zimbabwean companies are in Zambia on a trade and investment mission aimed at securing new business partnerships and expanding commercial opportunities in one of the country's key regional markets.
The high-level mission, organised by Zimbabwe's trade development and promotion agency, ZimTrade, began with a Services Business Forum in Lusaka, bringing together companies from Zimbabwe and Zambia for intensive business-to-business (B2B) engagement sessions.
The initiative is focused primarily on the agriculture and building and construction services sectors, areas identified as offering significant opportunities for cross-border collaboration and investment.
According to ZimTrade, the strong participation by businesses from both countries reflects growing interest in strengthening regional trade ties and unlocking new commercial opportunities.
"We were happy to have a good turnout of local and Zambian businesses, underscoring a strong regional appetite for commercial engagement," the agency said.
The trade promotion body noted that the participating Zimbabwean firms are actively pursuing strategic partnerships and market opportunities, with B2B matchmaking sessions designed to facilitate direct engagement between potential business partners.
The agency said the mission forms part of broader efforts to increase Zimbabwe's exports and deepen economic integration within the region.
"This mission marks a critical step forward in driving concrete bilateral trade and investment opportunities within the region," ZimTrade said.
The business engagements are expected to provide Zimbabwean companies with an opportunity to showcase their products, services and expertise while identifying potential customers, distributors, investors and strategic partners in the Zambian market.
Trade experts say Zambia continues to offer attractive growth opportunities for Zimbabwean businesses due to its geographic proximity, stable economic environment and participation in regional trade frameworks such as the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).
The neighbouring country has also emerged as an important market for Zimbabwean exports, particularly in agriculture, manufacturing, engineering services and construction-related activities.
For Zimbabwean companies, the mission provides a platform to explore new revenue streams, expand regional footprints and strengthen supply chain linkages across Southern Africa.
The trade mission aligns with Zimbabwe's export-led growth strategy, which seeks to increase the country's export earnings, diversify markets and promote greater participation by local companies in regional and international value chains.
Officials believe that stronger commercial partnerships between Zimbabwean and Zambian businesses could help stimulate investment, create employment opportunities and contribute to economic growth in both countries.
The mission is expected to conclude with a series of follow-up engagements aimed at converting business discussions into formal trade agreements, investment partnerships and long-term commercial relationships.
