Police in Gweru have arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered property valued at more than US$48,000 following an operation conducted in Harben Park last Thursday.
The suspects, identified as Tarisai Danha (36), Bernard Phiri (29) and Tinashe Gonde (41), are alleged to have been involved in a series of robberies committed in and around the Midlands Province between March 17 and May 19, 2026.
Deputy national police spokesperson Martin Matambo confirmed the arrests and the recovery of suspected stolen property.
Among the items recovered were eight Honda Fit vehicles, 12 gas tanks weighing 48 kilograms each, fitted vehicle batteries and other property believed to be linked to the suspects' activities.
Police said the recovered goods are valued at more than US$48,000.
The arrests are being viewed as a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to combat armed robbery and property-related crimes in the Midlands region.
Investigators are now working to establish whether the suspects are connected to additional criminal cases reported in Gweru and surrounding areas.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the full circumstances surrounding the arrests or how the recovered property was traced to the suspects.
Police are expected to continue investigations and may pursue additional charges should further evidence emerge linking the trio to other offences.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police has urged members of the public to continue providing information that can assist law enforcement agencies in combating organised criminal activities and recovering stolen property.
The suspects are expected to appear in court facing charges related to armed robbery and possession of suspected stolen property.
More details are expected to be released as investigations progress.
