President Emmerson Mnangagwa has dismissed political debate on social media as detached from the realities of electoral politics, telling Zanu PF's top leadership that the ruling party's strength lies in its grassroots structures rather than online platforms.

Addressing the party's Central Committee at Zanu PF headquarters in Harare on Thursday, Mnangagwa contrasted what he described as the "wilderness of social media" with the party's mobilisation efforts at community level.

"Detractors spend their time in the wilderness of social media, with its illusionary false community," Mnangagwa said.

"Zanu PF, on the other hand, is on the ground, in villages and wards, winning the hearts and minds of the people."

His remarks come amid heightened political activity on social media, where speculation, debate and commentary on developments within the ruling party have become increasingly prominent.

Mnangagwa, however, said electoral outcomes—not online discussions—remain the true measure of political support.

He pointed to Zanu PF's performance in the recent Tsholotsho by-elections, where the party retained Wards 1, 10 and 21.

"The recent by-elections held in Tsholotsho, Matabeleland North Province, are a case in point," he said.

"Our Zanu PF party successfully retained all three contested wards, namely Ward 1, 10, and 21."

"Congratulations, Makorokoto, Amhlophe."

The President attributed the victories to the party's organisational strength and grassroots mobilisation.

"This was as a result of hard work, greater organisational capacity, and a message that resonates with the grassroots," he said.

Throughout his address, Mnangagwa emphasised that sustained engagement with communities, rather than online narratives, would determine the party's electoral success.

Despite celebrating the Tsholotsho victories, he urged party officials not to become complacent, reminding them that several by-elections are on the horizon.

"Victory is a continuous responsibility," Mnangagwa said.

"We have forthcoming by-elections across the country, including in Hwange, Mazowe, Mudzi, and Mutare."

"I urge the leadership of the party to ensure that the Zanu PF machinery is always ready and well-oiled for other convincing victories."

The President's comments underscore Zanu PF's continued focus on strengthening its grassroots structures as it prepares for upcoming electoral contests across the country.
