MINISTER of State for Presidential Affairs, Didymus Mutasa, last week visited and offered his moral support to Zanu-PF cell-leader, William Chapepa, who was recently petrol-bombed by suspected MDC-T supporters in Headlands and escaped with serious injuries.
Mutasa, who is a Zanu-PF Politburo member, the party's national secretary for administration and also the Member of House of Assembly for Headlands constituency, was accompanied to the Chapepa homestead in Ward 12, Tandi area, by Zanu-PF district and provincial officials.
Mutasa offered the family undisclosed monetary assistance and said the party would meet all medical expenses.
He warned Zanu-PF supporters in the constituency against retaliating.
He said Zanu-PF abhors violence.
"We all know who did this, so let the law take its course. We do not want violence. We must use violence-free campaign strategies. Violence does not win you votes, only persuasion does. Let us persuade people to vote for Zanu-PF," said Mutasa.
Chapepa's alleged assailant and MDC-T secretary for Headlands, Samson Magumura, is expected to appear in court today (Friday) on attempted murder and malicious injury to property charges, which emanate from the burning of his ( Chapepa)'s vehicle. Magumura was granted bail by the High Court last Thursday after spending more than a week in remand prison after the State, led by area public prosecutor Mr Tirivanhu Mutyasira opposed bail on his initial appearance before Rusape provincial magistrate, Mr Shingi Mutiro.
This prompted Mr Mutiro to refer him to the High Court for bail application.
It was Mr Mutyasira's argument that Magumura, who stays in Village A, Tandi area, clashed with Chapepa and threatened to "fix him".
Magumura and Chapepa are aspiring councillors for Ward 12 in Headlands under their respective party tickets.
Magumura allegedly made the threats on February 13. It is alleged that Magumura and two others still at large allegedly connived to kill Chapepa and to damage his Nissan Vanette kombi.
