The Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, Professor Jonathan Moyo has implored parastatals that fall under his portfolio to fulfil the ministry's mandate by delivering promises that were made to the electorate.

The boards and management from the eight parastatals that fall under Professor Moyo's ministry and staff from the ministry are holding a two-day services retreat meeting in Harare.

Professor Moyo implored the participants to take the retreat as an opportunity to reflect on the mandate of the ministry, tackle challenges and seize opportunities that have been created by Zanu-PF's landslide victory in the harmonised elections which has once again given Zimbabweans full control of the country's resources.

He called on the parastatals to ensure they deliver what President Mugabe promised the electorate as espoused in the Zanu-PF manifesto.

"We now have a Zanu-PF government, which is going to be implementing the party's policies coming from its manifesto. We now have an opportunity that we last had in 2000 and we must assert ourselves over everything that God has given us," said Professor Moyo.

Professor Moyo said the Ministry of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services has the mandate to defend the country's sovereignty, adding that Zimbabweans must assert themselves over everything that the land has been blessed with.

Also present at the retreat was Professor Moyo's deputy, Supa Mandiwanzira and Zimpapers Board Chairman, Dr Paul Chimedza, who is also Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care.

The chief executive officers from the eight parastatals introduced their board members.

First was Mrs Florence Sigudu-Matambo of Transmedia followed by Mr Happison Muchechetere of ZBC, then New ZIANA's Rangarira Shoko.

Mr Justin Mutasa of Zimpapers; Kingstons Acting CEO, Ms Kiitumetsi Zawanda; Zimbabwe Media Commission's Dr Tafataona Mahoso, Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe CEO, Mr Obed Muganyura as well as Film School CEO, Dr Rino Zhuwarara also introduced their board members.

Various experts including Mr Baffour Ankomah, a Ghanaian national based in the United Kingdom and an information packaging expert, Mr Edmund Kudzai will also share their expertise.

The Permanent Secretary in the ministry, George Charamba chaired the session.
