A special envoy of the President of Ecuador Mr Rafael Correa, Mr Jose Maria Guijarro Garcia, delivered a special message inviting President Robert Mugabe to the next Africa-South America Summit to be held in Quito next year.
The summit is a platform for the two developing continents to discuss issues of mutual interest in the political, economic spheres as well as United Nations issues.
As developing continents, Africa and South America share similar views on most issues affecting developing nations, including the need to review the composition of the UN Security Council where developing countries are not represented on a permanent basis.
The two regions are also asking for veto power if the world body decides to maintain them when they carry out UN reforms.
Turning to his deliberations with the President, Mr Garcia said Ecuador is in agreement with President Mugabe's stance that now is the time to fight for economic liberation following the attainment of political independence.
He also expressed solidarity with Mugabe's views that transnational companies should respect the laws and rights of the countries they extract resources from and that local people should also benefit from their resources.
