Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa has scoffed at a decision by the Morgan Tsvangirai led to boycott yesterday's Chirumhanzu-Zibagwe bye-election.
Mnangagwa said despite the MDC-T boycott, the number of contesting candidates had risen from three in the 2013 elections to five.
"In fact it's on radio that throughout Chirumhanzu-Zibagwe, there have been no reports of violence, very peaceful, the same with Mt Darwin, no incidents, we are grateful to our people, it shows maturity," said Mnangagwa.
"I was just looking at the number of contenders for Chirumanzu-Zibagwe and there are five of them. During my time there were always three that would contest the seat which means it is more democratic now that before," he said.
Mnangagwa expressed confidence his wife Auxillia would win the seat.
"I have no doubt that she will win," he said.
