Ex-lovers fight over property

Two former love birds last week sought the intervention of the courts after failing to amicably share the property they accumulated while cohabiting.
The Voice reported that Agisanyang Nkwe, 27, and her Zimbabwean ex-lover Zitah Nkomo, 39, appeared before Chief Keabetswe Dihutso Mogoditshane Customary with each claiming they deserved more of the property they had bought while still together.
The couple met in 2013, moved together and started buying household property. An aggrieved Nkomo also claimed to have even built a five bedroomed house in his ex-lovers plot.
Though it has been a while since their love broke down, what triggered court intervention was Nkwe's recent decision to move to Gabane and taking along most of the property.
Nkomo told court that his intensions were to marry his girlfriend hence he invested more money on her and even raised funds for her to further her studies in France
He said he even built a five bedroomed house in Nkwe's plot in Gaborone as he thought they had a future together but his lover had a change of heart when the house was almost complete.
Nkomo, who is a divorcee also told court Nkwe gave away some of the property he shared with his ex-wife.
After listening to the heads of argument, Dihutso ordered that the property be split between the two parties.
Nkomo was then given part of the household furniture and a toyota corolla vehicle that Nkwe had before they met.
His ex-girlfriend also got part of the furniture a new VW golf vehicle that the two bought together. She will also keep the house built in her plot.
Speaking to the Voice while the furnisher was being shared the two said they are going to appeal the judgment.
