State media reports of a NAZARENE Pastor in Chitungwiza who has been slapped with a four-month jail term for failing to pay US$1 010 for the upkeep of his two children.

Chitungwiza magistrate Ms Barbara Chimboza had ordered Donny Mauka to clear his outstanding money to his estranged wife Ntombizodwa Vingirai by end of last month.

He only managed to pay US$50 from the outstanding figure of US$1 060.

In mitigation last month the man of the cloth once pleaded with the court to allow him to clear the outstanding money through US$100 monthly instalments, but failed to do so.

When asked why he failed to pay the amount, Mauka told the court that he was doing a project to raise the money.

Ms Chimboza, however, concluded that it was high time the man of the cloth should pay for his misdeeds.

When he first appeared in court, Mauka was ordered to pay US$250 per month towards the upkeep of his children and US$270 per term for school fees.

He, however, defaulted since January this year resulting in arrears of US$1 060.

Magistrate Chimboza yesterday granted him the downward variation from US$200 to US$100.
