Fuel smuggling scam unearthed

The Affirmative Action Group (AAG) has unearthed a scam which involves more than 30 fuel dealers who are trading smuggled fuel, urging responsible authorities to act expeditiously to avoid continuous loss in revenue.

The revelations are a cause for concern considering that government has recorded depressed revenue in the first half of the year.

According to investigations by AAG, the list of the firms which is in possession of ZBC News shows that some of the big companies in the industry are engaging in unscrupulous dealings which are prejudicing government millions of dollars.

AAG Mashonaland West CEO, Mr Tapiwanashe Chikondowa said the government should tighten screws to avoid such revenue leakages.

The smuggling of fuel is a sad development which is likely to cripple the industry despite being one of the major revenue sources for government.
