A white Nissan hardbody from the Ministry of Education fell into a water canal in Rusununguko Township phase one Mvurwi around 19:45hr yesterday (Sunday).
There was drizzle in Mvurwi during that time and very few people were seen walking in the streets.
Allegations are that the driver was in company of a rank marshal's wife whom he wanted to drop at a junction.
The driver failed to negotiate a corner as he was said to be under the influence of alcohol resulting in him switching the car's lights in order to drop his concubine but to no avail.
Bulawayo24.com arrived on the scene few minutes later only to see eye witnesses, but the driver and his girl friend had varnished in the darkness.
Eyewitnesses say the driver is from Norton but could not shed more light as he was in panic mood.
"The driver seemed to be rough but he just said he is from Norton and since he was with hwindi's wife (name withheld) may be he feared mob psychology, but he switched off the lights before he stopped and failed to negotiate this corner.
"Today is a Sunday where was he going with a company car and he looked drunk we tried to help him but he proved to be a hard nut to crack as he disappeared few minutes latter," explained the source.
Meanwhile, police is yet to attend the scene and the car is still in the trench but the driver is yet to be seen.
