Zimbabwean lawmaker Monica Mutsvangwa has been elected deputy president of the Sadc Parliamentary Forum (PF), the deliberative body that brings together 14 national Parliaments from the region and approximately 3 500 Members of Parliament.
According to the Newsday, Mutsvangwa, a Zanu-PF Senator, was elected to the position unopposed at the end of the plenary assembly session of Sadc-PF in Harare on Sunday.
She will deputise Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, Speaker of National Assembly of Angola, who was also elected unopposed.
In a rousing acceptance speech, Mutsvangwa presented herself as "a person who is bold and will take decisions on the basis of evidence; who considers all sides of an argument; who is firm but fair; who exudes confidence, but relies on the trust and thrust of team mates; who is knowledgeable and articulate; who will fight for what is right; who will respect all your views however unpopular they might seem; who walks the talk, and is committed and passionate about the challenges that this forum is trying to overcome".
