New year's Statement from Gwanda Residents Association
Gwanda Residents Association would like to thank you the residents of Gwanda, AmaJahunda Amahle, for an incident free festive season and conducting ourselves in the true spirit of ubuJahunda.
Acknowledging the harsh economic and sociopolitical environment that we are currently going through as a nation and indeed as residents of Gwanda, as AmaJahunda we remained resolute to the spirit of peace, tolerance and responsibility which is our pinnacle as AmaJahunda albeit with the general lack of the festivity in our festive season.
As we get into 2016, the Gwanda Residents Association would like to invite all of us AmaJahunda to better in our sense of tolerance of one another and responsibility as residents.
Last year our town was characterised by a high increase in crime particularly violent crimes such as rape, robbery and even murder.
Several of our houses were broken into and property running into tens of thousands of dollars stolen from our innocent residents. A more than enough amount of blood was shed in our streets, homes and places of leisure which is an unusual characteristic of Gwanda.
The better part of last year residents representatives and service providers from our council, electricity supply authority, water supply authority and even mobile phone operators spent so much of valued time fighting and quarreling instead of focusing on developmental issues.
It is our hope that as we go into the new year service providers will develop a people and service delivery oriented approach to minimise on clashes with residents.
With the country's economic and political fortunes expected to continue on a downward slide the conditions in the country are equally expected to get tougher for us the ordinary residents resulting in some tension.
In the true spirit of AmaJahunda we plead with the residents of Gwanda to remain examples to the entire country that a community can remain resolute to it's well being against all odds as we keep our traditionally calm and peaceful character.
In the course of the year with the the aid of a funding partner the Gwanda Residents Association will engage council, stakeholders and residents to launch the Am-a-Jahunda initiative which is a social blue print which seeks to instill a sense of pride and belongingness on all residents of our lovely town to strive to do good always and fight for the best for our town.
The basis of Am-a-Jahunda initiative is Peace, Tolerance and Responsibility. The initiative simply says that we are the people of Gwanda and Gwanda belongs to us and only us can make Gwanda better.
With this initiative in mind we can only go forward as Gwanda with a single purpose as we thrive to build a better Gwanda.
We wish you all a peaceful, prosperous and love filled 2016.
Pula!!!!!!!!!!!!
