Former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) spokesperson and Member of Parliament, Fadzayi Mahere, has expressed hope for a future Zimbabwe led by ethical leadership—one that ushers in an economic renaissance benefiting even those aligned with the current administration of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Mahere shared her sentiments in response to a birthday post by government spokesperson Nick Mangwana, who posted a photo on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption:"It’s the day, please be nice (if you can), just for today."
Replying to Mangwana, Mahere wrote:"I come in peace – what kind of cake is that? Acknowledging your birthday, I do pray that you live long enough to witness a new wave of ethical leadership that moves the nation forward."
She added:"We would love for you to see what public money can achieve when it is channelled towards public services rather than personal enrichment."
Mahere envisioned a Zimbabwe rebuilt by its citizens—so compelling that even Mangwana’s children would be drawn back to it.
"You will see that it is possible to run the country so competently that it works for the many, not the few,” she posted.
"In that new dispensation, even you will enjoy happy birthdays. People will be kind without you asking, because they will have food on the table, a roof over their heads, decent work, quality education for their children, and access to healthcare."
Activist Chihera Stacey also weighed in, echoing Mahere’s call for accountability with a more scathing tone:"There is no rest, nor any extension of Ubuntu, for the wicked. I hope your passport is ready, and you’ve made proper travel plans—ones that involve crossing a river with crocodiles when the second coup finally hits. I wish for you to scream, and to experience the Judas Cradle. There is no rest, nor any extension of Ubuntu, for the wicked."
