HARARE - ZANU PF national chairman for (its) foot-soldiers, social media and propaganda group (Varakashi for Economic Development, Varakashi4ED), Godwin Nkata, has issued a stark warning to party members, cautioning them against potential infiltration by regime change sponsors seeking to destabilise the party, citing Botswana and Zambia's changes in administration (during previous elections) as living testimonies on its (party's) vulnerability to abrupt political overhaul.
In a press release on September 30, 2025, Nkata emphasised the need for vigilance, unity, and discipline within the party ranks.
Nkata claimed that as the opposition allegedly faces collapse, regime change sponsors are shifting their focus to infiltrating ZANU PF, exploiting weak-willed and mercenary-minded individuals to undermine the party's sovereignty and national progress. He cited the experiences of Zambia and Botswana as cautionary tales, underscoring the importance of protecting the party's legacy.
"Let us not be blind to history. The experiences of Zambia and Botswana serve as cautionary tales," Nkatha said.
"These agents of destabilisation have invested heavily in their mission to undermine our sovereignty and erode the foundations of our national progress. Their dream is to see ZANU-PF falling - (and therefore) we must ensure that dream remains just that - a fantasy," Nkatha said.
Varakashi4ED chairman stressed that the future of Zimbabwe demands care, unity, and unwavering discipline from ZANU PF members. He invoked the sacrifices of liberation war heroes, emphasizing that their blood, shed in pursuit of freedom, dignity, and self-determination, calls for loyalty, unity, and resolve within the party.
Nkata highlighted unity, discipline and loyalty as the pillars of ZANU PF's survival and success, emphasising that these values are crucial to the party's continued dominance in Zimbabwean politics.
This warning comes amid internal succession challenges within ZANU PF, particularly surrounding President Emmerson Mnangagwa's potential bid for a third term beyond 2028, despite constitutional term limits. Mnangagwa's most powerful deputy and feared second-in-command, General (Rtd) Constantino Guveya Chiwenga is mainly believed to be the main contender.
Some party members (current and expelled or former), including Blessed "Bombshell" Geza, have publicly opposed Mnangagwa's possible extension, citing corruption and calling for mass demonstrations.
