The Second Republic's inclusive development agenda continues to make strides, with the Binga Development Initiative recording significant milestones since its launch.

Presenting the 29th Cabinet highlights in Harare on Tuesday, Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Dr Jenfan Muswere outlined progress on several transformative projects aimed at improving livelihoods in Binga District.

"Cabinet noted progress regarding the implementation of the Binga Development Initiative, a brainchild of His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa, focusing on a number of transformative projects for the Binga District. The initiative resonates with the mantra ‘Leaving no one and no place behind'," said Dr Muswere.

Key developments include the construction of additional buildings at Binga Industrial Training College to support staff and student welfare, and the establishment of two new government boarding schools. Two clinics at Mabobolo and Manyanda have been completed, while Binga District Mortuary has undergone rehabilitation. President Mnangagwa also donated two ambulances to the district.

Irrigation facilities near Gwayi-Shangani and the Bulawayo Kraal Irrigation Project have been completed, alongside the rehabilitation of a 1.1-kilometre stretch of the Binga Airstrip. The resuscitation of Muchesu Mine has attracted international investment, unlocking economic opportunities for local communities.

Cabinet also approved the Zimbabwe Global Skills Partnership Programme, which targets critical sectors such as science, technology, engineering, health, and agriculture. The programme aims to mitigate brain drain and foster international partnerships through technical and vocational training placements.

In addition, the rollout of the Community Share Ownership Trust Framework was announced. The trusts are expected to drive rural industrialisation and attract investment into agro-processing and industrial park development, leveraging local agricultural economies and Village Business Units.

Other Cabinet highlights included the rollout of reserved economic sectors for Zimbabweans, approval of principles for the Zimbabwe Border Management Bill, and a report on Zimbabwe's participation at the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York.
