A man who intervened when the uncle of a double crossing girl wanted to attack the two boyfriends who were quarrelling over her was later axed on the head by the girl's uncle when he returned the axe he had snatched from him during the fight.
This was heard by a Bulawayo Regional Court magistrate when Khali Enock Ncube (70) of Mkhaya Village in Mangwe appeared in court.
He was denying the charge.
The victim who is not stated in the court papers was coming to pass by when he saw the fight and tried to stop Ncube from axing the two boyfriends.
He then disarmed Ncube and promised to bring it back the next day. On November 11 the victim went to Ncube's home to give him his axe and Ncube shouted to him asking him why he disarmed him by the time when he wanted to discipline Mthulisi and Sabani the previous day.
When the complainant started to explain that he wanted to prevent Ncube from committing serious offence, Ncube axed him with the same axe once on the head. He was taken to Plumtree hospital for treatment and a report made to the [police leading to Ncube's arrest.
