A 29-YEAR-OLD Bulilima man beat up his mother until she lost consciousness for using his donkey without his permission.
Simo Ndlovu who stays with his mother, Otilia Ngwana, and siblings in Masendu area discovered that the elderly woman had yoked one of his donkeys to a scotch cart to collect firewood.
In fury he confronted his mother and severely beat her up until she fell unconscious.
Initial efforts by the police to arrest him were fruitless as he attacked them with a knobkerrie and axe, but during the second attempt he was apprehended.
Ndlovu appeared on initial remand before Plumtree magistrate, Livard Philemon, facing charges of assault and resisting arrest.
He was remanded in custody to January 18.
Prosecuting, Elisha Mazorodze said Ndlovu attacked his mother on December 19.
"Ndlovu arrived home and discovered that his family had used his donkey to collect firewood without his permission. He questioned his younger brother who indicated that he had carried out the errand after he was instructed by his mother.
"Ndlovu then confronted his mother over her actions and he beat her several times using fists and booted feet. He then lifted up the old woman and threw her once on the ground on top of rocks and she fell unconscious," said Mazorodze.
He said Ngwana was taken to Plumtree District Hospital where she was later referred to the United Bulawayo Hospitals.
The matter was reported to the police.
Mazorodze said two police officers attended the scene and Ndlovu threw a knobkerrie and an axe at them, while resisting arrest. The cops later succeeded in apprehending him.
In another incident an 18-year-old man appeared on initial remand before the same magistrate facing attempted murder charges after he allegedly stabbed a friend who owed him money.
Kholwani Moyo of Mathokhonye area was remanded in custody to January 18.
Prosecutor Mazorodze said Moyo approached Billy Ncube on December 16 and demanded his money.
"Ncube refused to pay back the money and a misunderstanding ensued between the two men. Moyo retrieved a knife and stabbed Ncube once on the right side of his chest.
"He also took a metal chair and a bottle and struck Ncube in the face. Ncube sustained a deep cut on the chest and cuts on his face as a result of the attack," he said.
