Activist rejects Mnangagwa-Chiwenga 'Choice of Evils'

Prominent civic activist Obert Masaraure has urged Zimbabweans to reject both President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga, warning that the country deserves better leadership than the current ruling elite.
Masaraure, president of the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) and a member of opposition veteran Job Sikhala's National Democratic Working Group, a civil society organisation, said the populace should resist being forced to choose between what he described as "two evils."
"Given an option to choose between these two evils, some are tempted to choose the lesser evil. I reject both evils, because evil should never be your bedfellow," Masaraure said.
He called on Zimbabweans to unite in resisting tyranny and to build a "new fighting front towards a better Zimbabwe." Masaraure also urged state institutions to uphold the constitution and protect the people and the Republic.
"These two historical mistakes should never be allowed to tear down our beautiful Republic," he added.
Masaraure's remarks come amid intensifying political tensions within Zanu PF, with the succession battle between Mnangagwa and Chiwenga dominating the national conversation. Civic groups and opposition parties have repeatedly criticised what they describe as deepening factionalism within the ruling party, calling for reforms and a renewal of democratic governance.
