Former SuperSport United and Sekhukhune United coach Kaitano Tembo has been named assistant coach of the Zimbabwe national football team, the Warriors, which is controversially dominated by Scottland FC players.

The announcement came on Tuesday alongside the unveiling of the squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Rwanda. Tembo, a former Warriors player and fan favorite, is currently unattached to any club and will join the national team during the upcoming international break. His appointment follows the recommendation of head coach Michael Nees.

In the squad, Scotland-based midfielder Khama Billiat has been recalled after missing the previous round of international fixtures. Meanwhile, Finland-based midfielder Prosper Padera and Greece-based striker Tino Kadewere have been dropped.

Tembo’s return to the national setup is expected to bolster the technical team’s experience and provide guidance to both established and emerging players as Zimbabwe prepares for critical qualifiers.
