Mugabe, Tsvangirai must come clean on resurgence of political violence

19 Mar 2013 at 05:37hrs | Views
Over the past month Zimbabwe has seen the resurgence of unlawful arrests, intimidation, harassment and political violence, a painful reminder of a past of violent elections where these unlawful acts were the order of the day during the run up to and during the elections.

This has been made worse by the abuse of office by the police who appear to allow impunity on the side of those against democratization of our country while arbitrarily arresting anyone else they deem opposed to their favored political lords.

The MDC is concerned that this is coming at a time when the country has just gone through a peaceful referendum and under spotlight.

We are convinced that these are manifestations of the cozy relationship between President Robert Mugabe and Morgan Tsvangirai. The two have met on numerous Monday meetings under the guise of fixing the deteriorating political situation in the country but little or nothing at all has changed.

After each and every one of these meetings, the nation has been assured through Tsvangirai who appears to now be the spokesperson of Mugabe and his side -kick Arthur Mutambara, of the agreements that the country will never again see violence yet the results we see are to the contrary.

As MDC we demand that the two come clean on the continuing violence despite Tsvangirai's assertions that Mugabe is now a disciple of peace.

This worsening political situation only goes to prove that Tsvangirai and Mugabe are either not as in charge as they wish us to believe or are happy with it.

As MDC we wish to assure our peace loving Zimbabweans that we will not allow the beneficiaries of multi-million dollar houses and cheese -cakes to divert us from the people's expectation of a just and a fair Zimbabwe.
