Dear Dr Nkosazana-Dlamini Zuma
I would like to welcome you to Zimbabwe at this important period in our country. Your presence in Zimbabwe is very much appreciated. May I also take this opportunity to congratulate you on your appointment to the post of the African Union Chair. I wish you well during your tenure as Africa seeks to chart a developmental agenda and do away with poverty, corruption, vote rigging, and conflicts which have become a trademark of the continent.
Dr Dlamini-Zuma, I read your recent utterances from Harare with great trepidation. You said that conditions prevailing in Zimbabwe are conducive for a free and fair election. I did not expect someone from a high office as yours to utter such falsehoods. When growing up I was taught that an elder does not lie, but now I am grown up and have realized that elders lie too. Sorry to tell you that you have lied. You need to hear what is prevailing in the country from a cross section of Zimbabweans. Let me details below why this election will not be free and fair.
Firstly, thousands of eligible voters failed to register and there was no supporter whatsoever from ZEC to ensure that these people get a chance to register to vote. In your interview on Studio 7, you said you have spoken to ZEC and you have been given a convincing explanation about why thousands of people failed to register as voters. Are you serious madam, a convince explanation that someone's constitutional right has to be violated.
Secondly, there is unfair access to the media where only one political party enjoys access to the exclusion of other political parties. One candidate Morgan Tsvangirai is being attacked left, right and centre on the only television station that the country has. Is this your notion of fairness madam? If it is then you need to have your head and brain examined by a competent psychologist and medical practitioner.
Thirdly, the constitution states that if one fails to vote during the special voting period, heshe will not be allowed to vote any other time. But alas those members of the uniformed forces who failed to vote a few weeks ago will be allowed to cast their votes on Wednesday. ZEC actually approached the Constitutional Court to enable these guys to vote. Why did ZEC not approach the ConCourt to enable those who did not manage to register to be given a right to vote? What is so special about members of the uniformed forces that ZEC actually pleads their cause to the ConCourt. I see a situation where some animals are more equal than others here.
Fourthly, a few days before the elections, political parties have not had access to the voter's roll. May I tell you that this roll is controlled and kept by a man called Tobaiwa Mudede, who is the Registrar General of the county's births and deaths. True to his name, this name has really pieced us left right and centre. He has lived true to his name.
Fifthly, Dr Dlamini-Zuma, please be reminded that ZANU PF has disenfranchised millions of people in the Diaspora. Be reminded that close to 4 million Zimbabweans in your native country will not be allowed to vote. Is this what you call a fair election?
Information reaching my desk as I write you this letter is that the Zimbabwe Republic Police has banned Morgan Tsvangirai's rally scheduled for Monday, 29 July in Harare. The police is arguing that they do not have enough manpower to cover the rally. This is absurd, madam Dhlamani Zuma. Recently Charity Charamba was bragging that they have a force of 70, 000 men and women. These are the men and women who were all supposed to vote earlier under the special voting period. Can you have a quick word with Chihuri, the police commissioner and ask him if he cannot spear a few officers for this rally.
Dr Dlamini-Zuma, you need to come to your senses and look at the situation objectively. Do make us regret why you were elevated to the position of the African Union Chair. You are there to serve everyone including those you do not have past ties with.
Enjoy your stay in one of Harare's top hotels while the majority of us wallow in poverty. We are wondering where our next meal will come from.
Yours Sincerely
