Tsvangirai's fruitless appeals

In the aftermath of the July 2013 poll, MDC-T President Morgan Tsvangirai contested the results and lodged an appeal with the regional body, Sadc.
But his appeals were in vain as his legal team were handicapped by the state-controlled ZEC's refusal to produce documentation necessary for the case. Sadc proved unhelpful as all the heads of state - bar Botswana's Ian Khama - protected Mugabe.
For him and other senior government personnel, retaining power is a matter of life and death. To lose an election will, no doubt, result in many bigwigs facing charges for several human rights violations carried out during Mugabe's 35 year tyrannical rule. The likely charges range from genocide, kidnap, torture, rape, bribery, extortion, tax evasion, election fraud, culpable homicide to murder.
