Ladies, if you don’t know how to use makeup, don’t!

I AM always left in stiches when I attend events or just take a walk around town, when I see a number of women with faces resembling those of circus clowns.
Their faces appear smudged, they literally appear that way because of the tonnes of makeup they wear.
I often tell people, ladies to be precise, if you don't know how to use it then just don't!
Lately there has been a growing trend, where women are wearing some absurd colourful lipstick that totally doesn't complement their skin tone. I mean really, if you want a guy to notice you dress appropriately, and don't wear ghoulish makeup that winds up making you look like a clown from a horror movie.
I might sound a bit cynic and comic but take it from a guy's perspective, not all men are attracted to makeup and even those that find it to be appealing really wouldn't want to be seen with someone wearing makeup that looks like soot from a mine.
My associate and fashion blogger - Rutendo Chidawanyika, whom I engage when deliberating on issues concerning fashion, because of her interesting knowledge and of course female side did some research on makeup.
She said makeup was or is meant to enhance ones beauty and should not be used as a mask to hide behind.
"I have seen women wearing different kinds of makeup over the years. For those who are not sure of what I am talking about, I mean; face powder, foundation, concealer, lipstick, mascara, eyeliner, eye shadow and even artificial eyelashes," she said.
She noted that it was not all to be necessarily worn at once.
"Women want to feel beautiful all the time and the right makeup can make that possible. A number of women use makeup for a number of reasons such as making their skin tones even, glow, makes them feel beautiful and hides their facial flaws," she said.
Chidawanyika said in order to achieve a desired look one should equip themselves with requisite knowledge on makeup in relation to skin tone.
"Choosing the right shade for your complexion is challenging but necessary in order to look fab. For instance concealer and foundation can be used as the base on the face; face powder will work as the finish. Foundation is usually used for evening out the skin tone while concealer covers dark circles, blemishes and can be used as a base before applying eye shadow," she said.
When buying concealer get a shade lighter than your complexion. Test the product to make sure it works for you.
She said she liked eyeliner because it gave the eyes the dramatic but sexy effect, but as the name states it should be for the eyes only.
"I have seen women shave off all their eyebrows only to redraw them using eyeliner rather than an eyebrow pencil. An eyebrow pencil works better on the eyebrows (please don't shave off all your eyebrows). Eye shadow is easy to pull off, initially it was used to add the glam effect on the eyelids but now has many other uses such as lipstick, eyeliner, highlighter, used as a blush and filling in eyebrows.
"Mascara is basically for curling, thickening, lengthening and colouring the eyelashes. If you have artificial eyelashes then mascara is not necessary," said Chidawanyika.
Still on that note to do with the eyes, ladies please cut us some slack and be realistic.
Why on earth would you want to shave off your eyebrows only to redraw them?
Some of them, when drawn back, really aren't the same size and look like waves from the ocean. And some of those colours you add, that's just nasty but anyway I am still a man.
Rutendo went on to talk about lip liner, which she emphasised that it is used on the lips only, as a base before applying lipstick.
"Without lipstick the look is never complete. Lipstick adds spark and glam to the look," she said.
In parting she said makeup should be applied lightly so that it looks natural.
Avoid changing brands of makeup especially concealers and foundation so that it doesn't damage your skin. Remember toned down makeup is always classy and sophisticated.
Although a handful of men are wearing makeup these days but that's another story.
Well I have come across a few men that wear makeup but you really can't tell they are wearing any.
There has been a never ending debate on whether men should wear makeup or not. There are many reasons men could wear makeup, perhaps one would be appearing on TV, doing a photo shoot or maybe for a performance.
It is entirely up to the person to wear makeup or not. I am sure we are all aware what men that wear makeup are labelled, but that's a story for another day.
