President Mugabe a decorated War vet
03 Mar 2016 at 13:30hrs | Views
It is worth putting the record straight that President Robert Mugabe is a decorated War Veteran that participated actively in the war for liberation struggle alongside other Zimbabweans.
The existing and late war veterans that constitute the Zimbabwe Liberation War Veterans Association (ZLWVA) are his bonafide peers since time immemorial. He shares the same national views, aspirations and values since their time together in the bush as they were poised to upset the white colonial administration.
In this vein, it is naïve for someone to perceive President Mugabe as an outsider that is begging to associate with the war veterans. His recent apology to the war vets after they were tear-gassed, and dispersed by riot police, prior to their intended meeting was a sign of comradeship as he felt pierced to the bone marrow by the bad omen that befell his kith and kins on that fateful day at City Sports Stadium.
The universal ZLWVA membership share the same vision and impetus which inspired them to take up arms of war to wage a war of liberation struggle to free the country from the chains of white colonial rule.
This explains why the whole nation pays tribute to the splendid work of the liberation war fighters that emancipated us all from the unjust system which violated our rights unbridled for close to a century.
There is nothing whatsoever, which can separate President Mugabe from his wartime colleagues.
