BCC holds golf tourney to celebrate Bulawayo @120

THE Bulawayo City Council yesterday held a golf tournament as part of the celebrations for the city's 120th anniversary celebrations at Harry Allen Golf Club yesterday.
The tourney was bankrolled by several companies among them Choppies, ZB Bank and Stanbic Bank.
Choppies Group executive chairman, Ambassador Phelekezela Mphoko, who was one of the golfers taking part in the tourney, said they were pleased to support sport in the city.
He said they would be taking several initiatives to support sports such as golf and rugby among others.
Mphoko, an avid golfer himself, said he started off as a caddy at Harry Allen at the age of 14.
The Choppies Supermarket Group was among some of the sponsors of the tournament. They sponsored Holes 1 and 18.
"We have produced great golfers such as Nick Price and we can come up with a lot more others. Despite being new in Bulawayo, we are headquartered here and intend expanding further as Choppies," he said.
"Bulawayo is very important as it is the second largest city in the country and we will continue playing our role in assisting it develop."
The joint winners of the tournament were H Hlabangani and G Hapadziwi, D Ndlovu and Mphoko came second,while A Dube and W Chinembiri were third.
