Some Apple's iPhone users complained that the smart phone's built-in alarm clock failed to wake them up on the first two days of 2011, media reports said on Monday.
Apple has acknowledged this glitch on Sunday, saying the users who set their iPhone alarm for a non-repeating wake-up may find the alarm didn't go off with this year's arrival.
"Customers can set recurring alarms for those dates and all alarms will work properly beginning Jan. 3," Apple spokeswoman Natalie Harrison said in a statement.
The glitch affects those iPhones running Apple's latest iOS 4.0 operating system, including the smart phone's several versions that were upgraded to the latest system.
It still isn't clear what caused the alarm problem, as Apple declined to comment on the exact nature of the glitch.
Media reported that thousands of people were late for work, airline flights and trains, as a result of the malfunction.
It was the second time in two months that iPhone's alarm clock went wrong. Last November, the handsets' alarm clocks failed to register the end of daylight-saving time and went off for one hour late.
According to Apple, more than 1.7 million people around the world had bought iPhone 4 as of last June.
