POPULAR jazz sensation Majahawodwa "Jeys Marabini" Ndlovu yesterday left the country for a month long tour of Europe.
He will tour Austria, Germany and Hungary with his full band. The jazz performer, who on previous occasions toured by himself, was for the first time accompanied by six band members - Trevor Mnaphi, Mthabisi Moyo, Nigel Mzingaye Ndlela, Dumisani Nkomo, Dumi Nyongolo and Kelvin Ndlovu.
Before departing, Marabini and his band visited the Bulawayo City Council chambers to seek blessings from the city fathers ahead of their tour. Speaking before acting Mayor, Councillor Gift Banda,Town Clerk Middleton Nyoni and former Mayor, Angilacala Moyo at the City Hall, Marabini said it was important that he informs the elders that he was travelling overseas.
He said he was grateful to the City of Bulawayo for looking after him.
"This is the most important part in a man's life when one has to come before the elders and humbly present himself to them to bid farewell and also tell them you are off to work.
"What is important is that we are the first ones from Bulawayo to travel abroad as a band", Jeys said.
Banda said he was touched by the passion that the jazz performer had for his birth place Filabusi.
"Your passion for your birth place, where you are from and Bulawayo as a whole amazes me. Even if other people discourage you, it is my hope that your trip will be a success and this will open doors for you and your band", he said.
One of Marabini's backing vocalists, Dumi Nyongola, said he was glad the fruits of their hardwork were beginning to ripen.
"I'm happy that I'm one of the group's founding members and it is quite an honour that I'm also travelling abroad with the group. This shows that finally we are reaping the fruits of our hardwork", he said.
