JOURNALIST and musician Wisdom Revelator Nyathi - who is popularly known as Mawizzah - has made a grand entry into the cutthroat music industry with his debut track dubbed Team leyi, which celebrates footballing giants Highlanders Football Club.
The 28-year-old Mawizzah, who holds a media and society studies degree from Midlands State University, had a brief stint with the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation in Gweru before picking up the mic.
His song also features Christian comedian, Nceku, who delivers the chorus as Mawizzah deals with the verses on the house beat.
The song celebrates Bosso, as Highlanders FC are popularly known, and the musicians do not hide their loyalty to Bosso regardless of a long dry spell the team has endured.
"Bosso is part of my upbringing. This is the team I grew up knowing, my footballing interests start and end with Highlanders. At one time I went for trials for the team's juniors, but I didn't make the cut," Mawizzah said.
"Highlanders is not just a team. It's an institution that represents the people of Bulawayo, it's a culture and tradition. You can't separate the team from its people and history, just the mere mention of the name Bosso, I go crazy, hence we sing 'team leyi iyangihlanyisa' which means this team makes me go crazy."
Mawizzah and Nceku have worked together in promoting the brand Nceku as well as organising shows for the Christian comedian.
A new-look and youthful Highlanders side won its Castle Lager Premier Soccer League's opening encounter against army side Black Rhinos.
"It's a new beginning for our team and it's a big boost starting the league with a win, I foresee glory days ahead of us. The approach of using young players is a wise move in preserving the Bosso culture which won us cups in the past," he said.
The musician who is already planning the iTeam leyi video says he will release another song in June.
