Kabul - An Afghan woman who was beaten to death by a mob has been buried in Kabul, her coffin carried by women's rights activists.
Hundreds of people have gathered in northern Kabul for the funeral on Sunday of 27-year-old Farkhunda, who like many Afghans is known by only one name.
She was killed late Thursday by a mob of mostly men, according to police accounts. The city's head of criminal investigation, Mohammad Farid Afzali, has said she suffered an unspecified psychiatric illness.
President Ashraf Ghani condemned Farkhunda's killing as "heinous" and ordered an investigation.
The brutality of the attack, in a country where violence against women often goes unpunished, has drawn wide condemnation - though some officials and religious leaders have sought to justify it saying Farkhunda had allegedly burned a Qur'an.
