MDC-T leader and Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai on Saturday called on the party to be non partisan and not work on dividing the people.
Speaking at a prayer meeting at Bulawayo's Barbourfields Stadium, Tsvangirai said, "the army should not divide the people and it should not be partisan, you should not be Zanu-PF, MDC or any other party, remember the army is not there to cause war but to prevent war.
"Even our enemies will get the opportunity to attack us while we are preoccupied with political parties and not defending the nation. So the security should understand their responsibility."
Tsvangirai's calls follow recent declarations by Major general Martin Chidondo to 3 000 trainee soldiers in Mutoko that they should be involved in the country's politics and support Zanu-PF.
Tsvangirai also dismissed claims by Zanu-PF that devolution of power meant dividing the country.
"When we talk about devolution, we are talking about responsibility and not secession or federalism, we are one country with one constitution," he said.
