Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Mozambique and Eswatini, Victor Matemadanda, has died, the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services has confirmed.

Permanent Secretary Nick Mangwana announced the news on his X handle on Saturday, describing Matemadanda as a dedicated public servant who served the nation with distinction in both government and diplomatic roles.

Matemadanda, a liberation war veteran and long‑serving Zanu PF national political commissar before his diplomatic appointment, was widely regarded as a forthright and influential figure within the ruling party. His tenure in government included service as Deputy Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs, where he was known for his outspoken defence of war veterans’ welfare and national interests.

Details surrounding the cause of death had not been made public at the time of writing, but government officials and political leaders have begun sending condolence messages, praising his contribution to national development and the liberation legacy.

Zanu PF officials described him as a committed cadre whose work in Mozambique strengthened bilateral relations and advanced Zimbabwe’s diplomatic footprint in the region. His role in Eswatini, where he was concurrently accredited, was also noted as part of his broader regional engagement efforts linked to Zimbabwe’s foreign policy priorities.

Matemadanda’s passing marks the loss of yet another senior liberation figure at a time when the country continues to reflect on the contributions of the generation that fought for independence.

Funeral arrangements and official statements from the government are expected to be announced in due course.
