PLAYING "Good Samaritan" proved costly for a Makokoba woman when the woman she took in snatched her husband who then impregnated her.
The recipient of Tekla Nkomo, 52's generosity, Violet Phiri, 27, on Tuesday went on to bash her accusing her of spreading rumours that she was dating her husband. The husband was only identified as Lloyd in court.
Nkomo told magistrate Sibongile Msipa how desperate Phiri was when she asked for accommodation after being kicked out by her husband from a rented house in the same suburb. "I accommodated Phiri after she was chased away by her husband, who was accusing her of infidelity. I allowed her to stay as she was working on her next move. I later discovered that she was having an affair with my husband and I ordered her to leave my house," said Nkomo.
She said after some time Phiri saw her talking to her in-laws in Makokoba and started shouting at her accusing her of spreading false rumours that she had an affair with her husband.
"Before I even answered her, she grabbed my jacket and started assaulting me," she said.
Nkomo said following the assault she sustained injuries on her right eye and she reported the assault to the police leading to Phiri's arrest.
Phiri, who claimed that she was impregnated by Nkomo's husband, left the court in stitches when she told the magistrate that the man was also her husband.
The magistrate asked her what proof she had on her claims and she pointed to her bulging tummy.
Phiri kept on giving contradicting statements about her affair but later admitted that she was just a girlfriend to Nkomo's husband.
She was remanded in custody to today for continuation of trial.
