Fake cop arrested in full police gear, now on the run

A MAN from Mahatshula North who was arrested while wearing a full police uniform, also having handcuffs and their keys is now on the run after he defaulted court appearance.
Ekem Ncube (35) was not asked to plead to illegally wearing a police uniform charge when he initially appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Sheunesu Matova on January 8. The magistrate had remanded him out of custody to January 9, 2015 but he did not turn up prompting the magistrate to issue a warrant of arrest against him.
The court heard that on January 4, 2015 the complainant a police Sergeant Stephen Chabata (36) was on patrol together with other police officers at Centenary Park in Bulawayo. They saw Ncube sitting at the park wearing a police uniform which included Stu Cap, riot pair of trousers, grey police shirt, a web belt, titles and had handcuffs and their keys. He also had his old police constabulary identity card which had since ceased validity.
It was established during investigations that he was a member of the Neighbourhood watch committee based at Queens Park in 2003 but he failed to return to the station the uniform and other police items where he ceased to be NWC member.
