Bulawayo deputy mayor, Gift Banda has been granted permission to buy 3.5 hectares of land to build town houses at Ascot race course.

The land is worth a cool $130 000.00.

"An application has been received from Mr G. Banda of 114 Circular Drive Burnside Township seeking permission to purchase a portion of the Ascot Race Course and it reads as follows: -

"Please accept this letter as an application to develop a Town House Project.

"The space intended for building will be 3.5 hectares of land on the proposed space.

"This development will be in between Ascot Flats and UBH hospitals and situated within 5km east of the City centre. It is a prime location i.e. upmarket area due to its accessibility, proximity to Ascot shopping centre. The housing development is envisaged to be at this prime location. Once finished the project is targeted at the middle to high income group,"  reads a council report released on Wednesday.

According to the Bulawayo Operative Master Plan the piece of land applied for is zoned as Residential Buildings (Flats or attached dwellings) as such there would be no Town Planning objections to the proposal as Town Houses are in line with the Zoning of the area.

Council did not object to the application.

"The City Valuer recommended a purchase price of US$130 000.00 and minimum building condition of a plinth area of 2000m2. The applicant shall at his own expense seek the assistance of a registered land surveyor to title survey the said piece of land," council said.
