Acting President Phelekezela Mphoko has challenged the Bulawayo community to work together and come up with strategies that can bring back the city's glory days.
Bulawayo was once Zimbabwe's industrial hub and Mphoko says only people in the city can chat the way forward as no one else can do that.
Officiating at the Zanu-PF fund-raising dinner in the city, Acting President Mphoko said the whole country is feeling the effects of economic decline which might be worsened by yet another drought this season.
"There is need for Bulawayo on its own to work on strategies to transform the city using the available resources as such a task cannot be left to the government alone," he said.
Mphoko commended the business community in Bulawayo for coming up in full support of Zanu-PF in its bid to mobilise resources for the National People's Conference that will be held in Victoria Falls next month.
Choppies Supermarkets, Mbokodo Butchery and ZINARA each contributed US$10 000 with a south african business tycoon only identified as Gumede donating US$20 000.
