Major General (Retired) Solomon Siziba and Chenhamo "Chen" Chakezha Chimutengwende, who both passed away last week, will be laid to rest at the National Heroes' Acre in Harare on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
The Government, through the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, announced the twin heroes' burial in a statement released yesterday.
Maj-Gen Siziba, 67, passed away last Wednesday at Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks Camp Hospital after a long battle with cancer. His body was flown to Bulawayo on Saturday for a farewell by friends, relatives, and regional leadership before being airlifted to his Gwanda village and farm. Today, a funeral parade will be held at 11 am at Imbizo Barracks in Bulawayo. His body will then be airlifted back to Harare to lie in state at Charles Gumbo Barracks ahead of the burial ceremony.
Chimutengwende, 81, died last Thursday due to chronic kidney disease. His body will be airlifted to his rural home in Chiweshe at Majome Primary School, Mazowe District, for public viewing. It will lie in state in Chiweshe before being brought back to Harare on Tuesday to lie in state at Charles Gumbo Barracks prior to the Wednesday burial.
Chimutengwende, a veteran politician and former Minister of Information, Posts and Telecommunications, played a significant role in Zimbabwe's pre- and post-independence development. He served as a Member of Parliament for Mazowe for over 25 years, held numerous government portfolios, and was a dedicated member of Zanu-PF.
The Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage urged citizens to attend the burial proceedings on Wednesday to give a fitting send-off to these two great sons of the soil.
