The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) has announced the completion of rehabilitation work on a section of the Rutenga-Chicualacuala railway line that was washed away by heavy rains in recent days.
The damaged line was reopened to traffic on Sunday night at 10:50 pm following persistent efforts by NRZ's recovery team.
"We applaud the employees who worked tirelessly to ensure that the tracks were restored and trains can run smoothly," NRZ said in a statement.
NRZ spokesperson Andrew Kunambura expressed gratitude for the swift response and highlighted the organization's commitment to maintaining reliable rail services.
"We worked around the clock to complete the repairs and ensure that the line reopened as soon as possible," said Kunambura.
He also emphasized the NRZ's proactive approach to infrastructure challenges caused by extreme weather.
"We are taking steps to mitigate the effects of heavy rains on our infrastructure. We are committed to providing safe and reliable transportation services to our customers, and we will do everything in our power to achieve this goal."
The Rutenga-Chicualacuala line is a critical route in the region, and its swift rehabilitation underscores NRZ's dedication to minimizing disruptions in the transportation network.
